Trademark Registration in Dubai and Across the UAE

Planning a new launch or expanding an established business? We help companies, startups, and entrepreneurs with brand registration in Dubai and across the UAE, including applications for brand names and logos.

Before you file, our team reviews your mark and the goods or services it will cover. We then explain the documents, costs, and registration stages. In addition, our trademark protection services in the UAE support businesses dealing with unauthorised brands.

Why Register a Trademark in the UAE?

A registered trademark helps you protect the name or logo customers associate with your goods or services. It also provides a legal basis for challenging unauthorised use of identical or confusingly similar marks within the scope of your rights.

Because registration is federal, protection extends across all seven emirates, including Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. Protection in other countries requires separate consideration.

Our Services

Our Trademark Registration Services

We support businesses through the trademark registration UAE process, from checking availability to managing registration and renewal.

Trademark Search and Feasibility Check

Before filing, we carry out a UAE trademark search to identify potentially conflicting marks. We then explain the findings, potential registration risks and available next steps, so you can make an informed decision about protecting your brand.

Trademark Filing and Documentation

Our trademark filing service covers brand names, logos and other eligible marks. We help select the relevant UAE trademark classes and prepare application documents for submission to the Ministry.

Trademark Renewal and Protection

We assist with trademark renewal and advise on suspected infringement. In addition, we help you review protection needs when your brand, ownership, or business activities change.

Trademark Publication and Opposition Handling

After acceptance, we assist with publication in the Ministry’s Trademark Bulletin. If an examination objection or third-party opposition arises, we review the issues and advise on the response and applicable deadlines.

FAQs:

A trademark is a sign, such as a name, word, or logo, that distinguishes one business’s goods or services from another’s. UAE trademark applications are handled by the Ministry of Economy and Tourism. A trade name or company licence does not replace trademark registration.
Start with a trademark search and identify the goods or services you want to cover. Next, prepare and submit the application to the Ministry of Economy and Tourism. After examination and acceptance, the mark is published for opposition. If the application proceeds and the required fees are paid, the Ministry issues a trademark registration certificate. This is the federal service often referred to as the Ministry of Economy trademark registration.
The overall timeline depends on examination, publication, and whether objections or oppositions arise. Publication includes a 30-day opposition period, so an examination decision alone does not mean registration is complete. We can discuss an estimated timeline after reviewing your application. The Ministry aims to decide on an application within 90 days of filing.
You generally need a clear copy of the mark, applicant details, and a list of goods or services with the relevant classes. The Ministry also requires a trade licence for company or institution applicants and a duly certified and notarised power of attorney when a registered agent files. Translation and additional documents may be required depending on the application.
Once registered, a UAE trademark has a ten-year protection period calculated from the application filing date. It can be renewed for further ten-year periods, subject to the applicable requirements.
Yes. Foreign companies and individuals can register trademarks in the UAE. Applicants based outside the country must file through a registered trademark registration agent and provide the required power of attorney. Klay Legal Consultants can guide international applicants on the process, documentation, and filing arrangements. Foreign applicants can also consider an international filing under the Madrid Protocol, which the UAE joined in 2021, alongside a UAE national filing.
The next step depends on the reason for refusal. A grievance against a rejection must generally be submitted within 30 days of notification. Therefore, seek advice promptly so the decision and available response can be reviewed before the deadline.
Under the current procedure, accepted marks are published in the Ministry’s Trademark Bulletin. Separate newspaper publication is not part of the standard registration process. Third parties have 30 days from publication to oppose registration.
Depending on the asset and eligibility requirements, protection may involve trademarks, copyright, patents, industrial designs, or trade secrets. For example, a brand name and a technical invention need different forms of protection. We can help identify the rights relevant to your business.
We advise on suspected infringement, review evidence, and assist with notices, negotiations, and enforcement strategy. Where court proceedings are needed, representation is coordinated with appropriately licensed UAE advocates.
Yes. The regulations allow renewal during the final year of protection or within six months after expiry, subject to the applicable fees. However, renewing before expiry helps avoid additional costs and the risk of missing the renewal window.
Costs vary based on trademark type, class, publication fees, and legal services. It’s best to request a detailed quote from a legal expert.
